Swim Lesson Instructor

Department: Aquatics
Reports To: Aquatics Coordinator
Salary Range: $13.00-19.00

Position Summary:
We are looking for an energetic and dependable individual to join our Aquatics Team. In this role, you will provide swim instruction to varying ages and skill levels in a safe and encouraging environment. As a Swim Lesson Instructor, you will help participants build confidence in the water while teaching proper swimming techniques and water safety skills.

Qualifications: 
Must be at least 15 years of age and have reliable transportation. Applicants must possess a current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification or an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification with prior swim lesson teaching experience before hire. Must possess current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications and be able to work various hours of operation, including evenings and weekends. Must also pass a criminal background check.

Essential Job Functions:

  1.  Teach swim lessons to individuals and groups according to the program curriculum.

     2. Demonstrate proper swimming techniques and water safety skills.
     3. Monitor participants during lessons to ensure safety at all times.
     4. Provide encouragement and constructive feedback to participants.
   5. Maintain attendance records and communicate participant progress with parents o  guardians when necessary.
     6. Assist with setup and cleanup of swim lesson equipment and pool areas.
     7. Respond appropriately and quickly to emergencies following established procedures.
     8. Create a positive, fun, and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Job Requirements:
EDUCATION: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, American Red Cross CPR Certifications.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience teaching swim lessons or working in aquatics preferred. 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Needs the ability to see, hear, and move about effectively in and around the pool area. Must possess an audible voice for communication and instruction. Must be able to swim proficiently and perform water rescues if needed. Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and entering the water required.
